Extend the life of napped wool snooker, pool and billiard cloth

Cloth Care

You can extend the life of your cloth and ensure that it gives you optimal playing performance. The following brushing and ironing tips are designed to avoid unnecessary damage to the wool fibres or disturbing the precise directional finish of the nap.

Brushing

Regular brushing is essential and is a major factor in maintaining good table performance and appearance as well as making the cloth last significantly longer.

Brushing removes dust and chalk particles in the cloth and re-establishes the nap direction set within the cloth.

Always brush in straight lines in the direction of the nap (from baulk line to the ‘spot’). Never brush against or across, otherwise the direction of the nap will be lost.

Ironing

After brushing, the occasional dry ironing in the direction of the nap is desirable to make the cloth play faster. If conditions are humid, the cloth should be ironed more often.

Before ironing make sure the cloth is clean and well brushed so that the fibres are laid in the direction of the nap. Ensure that the iron is cool.

You don’t have to iron the cushions as regular brushing is all that is required to keep them in shape.

Preventive Maintenance

Colour fading

Ultra-violet light will fade the colour of the cloth. Avoid putting tables near natural daylight and in direct sunlight.

When tables are not in use cover them with dust covers because they keep the surface clean and help preserve the original colour.

Room temperature

All-wool cloth is adversely affected by any extreme variations in room temperature. Therefore, it is important to maintain the snooker room at a constant temperature – not less than 15⁰C.
